The SGV, in partnership with the Hauts-de-France region, organized the first day of champagne in Lille on Friday 24 November, within the walls of the Regional Council.
Xavier Bertrand, president of Hauts-de-France, had made it clear very soon after he was elected head of the region, his desire to see the creation of a project to improve the Champagne denomination in his territory. In fact, the Champagne vineyard in the south of the year?Aisne is administratively dependent on the Hauts-de-France region, so the goal was twofold: to show the entire region that it has a pearl on its territory and to allow Lille guests to discover champagnes from winemakers.participants, the event was a great success and achieved its objectives, strengthened contacts between the SGV and its members and the services of the Hauts-de-France Region and other institutions and professionals (distributors, oenologists?), and strengthened a direct link between winemakers and consumers.
Les Hauts-de-France proud to carry part of the Champagne denomination
They are 21 representative winegrowers of the Marne Valley, located from Crouttes-sur-Marne to Trélou-sur-Marne, via Nesles-la-Montagne and Essômes-sur-Marne, who had moved to Lille, with of course Covama ? Or Hauts-de-France and Terroirs de Picardie. Geoffrey Orban (Educavin) gave master classes throughout the day to explain the typicality of the terroir, the specificities of the cuvées presented by the winegrowers or the food-champagne pairings. Axon photographer David Rase presented the shots of the champagne bottles he “personalized”, drawing inspiration from ten years of working with winemakers. More than 600 visitors (officials and professionals in the morning, by registration in the afternoon) were able to discover or rediscover the cellars of winegrowers and cooperatives of the denomination. All the personalities that matter made the trip, Xavier Bertrand, president of Hauts-de-France, and Maxime Toubart, president of the General Union of Champagne Winegrowers, at the helm. The inhabitants of Lille who passed through the Regional Council on November 24 expressed their pride that 10% of the Champagne appellation, the most famous in the world, is on their territory. And I took the opportunity to order bottles!
